The Student Leadership Challenge is excited to announce that Jim Kouzes, award-winning and bestselling co-author of The Leadership Challenge, will be coming to Temple Tuesday, October 28, to talk about why “Leadership is Everyone’s Business.” The Student Leadership Challenge bases its comprehensive leadership development programs off Jim’s and Barry Posner’s solid evidence, compelling case studies, and enduring insights on how exemplary leaders consistently get extraordinary things done in organizations. We are so excited for this event to serve as a kick-off to our Exploring Leadership Speaker Series, where Jim can showcase Temple’s Student Leadership Challenge program to the greater Temple University community.
In his keynote on October 28 at 5 p.m. in Mitten Hall’s Great Court, Jim will present some of the enduring truths and sustainable lessons uncovered in his and Barry’s research that include:
· Why it is critical to our society that we develop student leaders now.
· The one fundamental that is the foundation of all leadership—something that has remained the same for that last 25 years and is not likely to change for the next 25 years.
· Why challenge is the opportunity for greatness.
· The glue that holds all leader and team relationships together.
· What it takes to become the best leader you can be, and why it isn’t talent.
· What's at the heart of all leadership.
· The secret to success in life – seriously.
Following Jim’s keynote address, he will be available for a book signing, and The Student Leadership Challenge will host a LeaderShape Vision Showcase, where 2008 LeaderShape graduates will share their visions for the future "in a world of possibility" created at the May LeaderShape Institute. This will enable students who attended the 2008 LeaderShape Institute to share their vision statements and build connections with the campus and surrounding community. Visions are big-picture ideas of what the student would like to see in the world. This entire event includes the opportunity to mix and mingle with the LeaderShape graduates and the greater Temple community. Our hope is to connect students with faculty, staff and community members who can assist them in realizing their visions.
Elizabeth Housholder, Program Director for Leadership Development, recently had a phone conversation with Jim to prep him for his keynote address at Temple and shared with him our 2008 Temple LeaderShape graduates. In an e-mail follow-up conversation Jim told Elizabeth that “It is absolutely inspiring to read these LeaderShape Visions. It keeps hope alive.”
We hope you join us for this exciting evening for the Student Leadership Challenge and keep generating the hope and empowerment of our future leaders!

Spring Fling! A Day in the Life...
Tuesday, April 15, 2008
6:00 a.m. Gina and Chris arrive to meet ROTC to unload the canopies and begin to set up booths.
7:00 a.m. The City Stage arrives, and Facilities set up tables and chairs. Maureen and Jen arrive and wish Chris a Happy Spring Fling Birthday!
7:45 a.m. Maureen, Jen and Kristen tape #s to tables, while Gina and Chris direct traffic.
8:30 a.m. Facilities’ set up is complete; everyone gets a chance to grab a quick breakfast and much-needed coffee before the crowds come out.
8:45 a.m. Doris, Jen, Ben, and Danie begin checking in excited student organizations, departments, and vendors. Everyone is commenting on what a beautiful day it is for Spring Fling this year.
9:00 a.m. Maureen reports to the Bell Tower to oversee the bands playing and the people working the sound. WHIP arrives and offers to give Maureen a DJ spinning lesson, but she declines because she doesn’t think the students will like her 80’s choices.
11:00 a.m. Spring Fling 2008 begins!
11:30 a.m. The first band begins performing. Dunkin Donuts on Liacouras Walk is handing out tons of free food and coffee, and the crowd is getting thicker. Gina walks around checking on everyone to make sure things are running smoothly, which they are so far.
12:30 p.m. Question of the day: Can I reserve my space now for next year!?
1:45 p.m. Student Activities staff members have now been working for 7-8 hours, but no one is tired because the energy of the students is contagious.
3:30 p.m. Liacouras Walk is packed, but peaceful. We are getting a fun preview of Thursday night’s Step Show – looks like it will be great.
4:00 p.m. Spring Fling Ends. Staff waits for everyone to clear out, takes down tents, and cleans up. We head back to the office to sing “Happy Birthday” to Chris, and then head to Mitten Hall for our next event! Great work everyone!
